Support Specialist/Autism Consultant | 1.0 FTE | Administration Center-Student Services | Date needed: 08/19/2024 | 10 month Calendar

The salary schedule for the 24-25 school year is currently under negotiation and will be updated upon settlement

GENERAL DUTIES

Provide support for classroom teachers and assistants in classroom where special education students are included in the regular program. Coordinate placement procedures of students in Specialized Programs, and assist with additional support staff requests.

 

Provide support for classroom teachers and assistants working with special education students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Conduct evaluations to determine eligibility in the area of ASD.

 

 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Special Education, School Psychology or Counseling, or equivalent experience and training
  • A valid State of Oregon Teaching License appropriate for the position
  • The ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Experience and expertise in student behavior management, collaborative problem solving, and staff development
  • The ability to provide leadership to staff in area of specialization
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to consult effectively with teachers, administrators, and parents in a variety of settings
  • The ability to write valid IEP’s and to follow IDEA and 504 procedures
  • Valid Oregon Driver’s license and reliable transportation for on the job travel
  • Physical ability to train and/or assist staff in physical management of students in crisis
  • The ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures and/or backgrounds
  • Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or district patrons
  • The ability to work harmoniously with others
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English
  • Proficient in the use of computer and Internet based applications, including but not limited to email and systems applications 
  • The ability to learn new automated systems as they are brought online by the District
  • Training, experience, and expertise in educational issues for students with ASD, including, identification, instruction, behavior management, collaborative problem solving, staff development
  • Good interpersonal skills to consult with and advise teachers in a variety of classroom situations
  • The ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures and/or backgrounds
